This page and link can be converted to something else in the future.  For now, we are using this page to test the process of combining text and images, create a test survey, and other miscellaneous things which may or may not become part of the final site.

Mobile Device Logo

This is a test of WordPress image alignment which allows the wrapping of text around an image.  Let’s give it a try using an existing image from the previous website uploads.  I just pasted the URL for an image and WordPress does the rest.  This image is used by a handheld device when the website is accessed using a smartphone for example.  There are left, right, etc… alignment options.  I used right alignment.   There is a caption option which I used.  There is also an option to link the image to another webpage for example.  One way to utilize this may be to have a webpage containing a dozen images and pick out one image to appear in the blog entry and then embed a link in the image which points to the page containing all of the other images.  If we continue typing enough text, we will see the text span the entire page from left to right. Entering text is fun. Be happy when you enter text. These webpages need more text. Let us not rest until these webpages are filled with text. If you think you have reached a point where text is no longer required, you are mistaken. You still need to enter even more text. Just keep typing.

Let’s try it again using another image.  This time I used left alignment to see how it looks when presented from that point of view.  I did not use a caption for the image this time.  WordPress makes it pretty easy to post images and text together in your postings.  In order to justify the text and make it look sort of like a newspaper you need to use the text tab in order to make that modification. These webpages need more text. Let us not rest until these webpages are filled with text. If you think you have reached a point where text is no longer required, you are mistaken. You still need to enter even more text. Note:  if all of the images are the same size, they will look very uniform on the page.  In that case you could, for example, left justify all of the images and with justified text on the right hand side, it would appear you are using a table when in reality you are not.

Let’s take a look at how WordPress handles images with different sizes.  This will give us an idea of how we may want to crop and/or resize images when we are building blog posts.

The above is a full size image from a Samsung smartphone.  It really dominates the page.  The original size is 2322 x 4128 which WordPress reduces to 769 x 1366.

Resized to 500

Here is the same photo resized. That looks a lot better.  We can still go smaller if we want to.  WordPress has resizing capabilities within itself.  However, using those features requires one to be online.  An auxiliary program will allow resizing to be done offline.  This will come in handy where internet connectivity is limited or not available.  In addition, anything which can be done offline will reduce the cost associated with a user’s mobile data plan.

We need to make sure we continue to add text in order to fill out the blank space which appears to the right of the photo. Entering text is fun. Be happy when you enter text. These webpages need more text. Let us not rest until these webpages are filled with text. If you think you have reached a point where text is no longer required, you are mistaken. You still need to enter even more text. Just keep typing.

If you need to, start a new paragraph and just keep typing. Type until your fingers cramp up and are ready to fall off. Eventually, you will reach the point where the space is completely filled in with text. It is at that point you will start to see the text wrap around the bottom of the photo and span the page from left to right. You may need to type a lot of text in order to make that happen. Entering text is fun. Be happy when you enter text. These webpages need more text. Let us not rest until these webpages are filled with text. If you think you have reached a point where text is no longer required, you are mistaken. You still need to enter even more text.

Cropped to a 300 square

Now, let’s take a look at photo cropping. For example, let’s say we want to make the photo square and/or we are only interested in a portion of the overall picture.

Again, we can still go smaller if we want to. WordPress has cropping capabilities within itself. However, using those features requires one to be online. An auxiliary program will allow cropping to be done offline. This will come in handy where internet connectivity is limited or not available. In addition, anything which can be done offline will reduce the cost associated with a user’s mobile data plan.

Here it is at 100 – the same size as the test crew headshots shown farther up on this page.  This can serve as a placeholder picture for any member of the crew who has not yet forwarded a headshot for inclusion on the Meet The Crew page.

Finally, an auxiliary program will allow for things like the above.  This is a simple border surrounding three copies of the same photo.  It could be three different photos, a different border color, etc…  Something like this could be used at the top of a post to show three different photos for example.
